The pears are ripening up and soon I’ll be collecting them! Can’t wait, because I want to start making sweet things to eat with those pears. I have three varieties growing here. There must be life after peaches…
In the last three weeks I’ve already made umpteen peach tarts and, of course, marmalade too. Peaches are still hanging all over the place–a pretty sight at this time of year. We have both the white and yellow varieties. But for now, I’m simply peached-out.
And then I found a lovely huge Zucca Napoletana (squash) in a supermarket in Asti. I don’t see this variety too often, usually I buy the Monferrine type at the Moncalvo market.
I just couldn’t wait to take the zucca home and to start cooking up some Zuppa di Zucca. I threw in some fresh herbs from the garden, marjoram, basil, parsley, and thyme, as well as onion, garlic, fresh ground black pepper and sea salt. A healthy brew!
The color is spectacular. And so nutritious. I also cook pears, peaches and zucca together too–that’s another cooking adventure.
